Carvings

Unique items carved by native Alaskans are often made from mammoth ivory or walrus bone and soapstone.  Some may include fur or feathers which are often from caribou or other Alaskan animals.  Craftsmanship skills are often passed along from the elders within the family and it is not unusual to have several items made by artists of the same surname.
